Special counsel Jack Smith has filed a motion to drop charges against President-elect Donald Trump related to his attempts to illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election.

NBC News reports that Smith's motion will propose dropping all four felony charges filed against Trump, who refused to concede his 2020 election loss, tried to get state officials to "find" votes he needed to overturn the loss, and then sent his supporters to march to the United States Capitol where they engaged in a deadly riot that sent members of Congress running for their lives.

In all, Trump had been charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights.
