Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) launched a bizarre attack on Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) Saturday during an appearance on Fox News, comparing her to the 1960s pop rock band The Monkees, and criticizing her for getting “her swag on” and “throwing her hands out.”

Crockett recently announced a bid for Senate, and has become a rising star in the Democratic Party over her frequent public feuds with President Donald Trump. Burchett, however, argued Saturday that he felt “Texas will be on to her,” and accused her of promoting a false version of herself.

“She's like The Monkees for Hillary Clinton in front of a crowd… The Monkees were a rock-and-roll band in the 1960s and 1970s, and it turned out they apparently couldn't play any music or do anything, they were just created out of whole cloth because they fit the bill, and she sort of does that,” Burchett said, speaking with Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany.

“When she gets in front of these groups, she gets her swag on, she's throwing her hands out, she's saying all of this wild stuff, but then you find out later, that's not where she even came from. She's educated, her family had money, she wasn't some inner-city girl that she tries to make herself out to be, so I think Texas will be on to her.”

While Crockett enjoys the highest name recognition for any Senate candidate in Texas, she faces an uphill battle according to recent polling, which shows her with 40% unfavorable opinion among voters compared to 33% who hold a favorable view of the Texas Democrat. Crocket will go on to face James Talarico – a Christian preacher and state representative – in the Democratic primary election.
