Political observers flagged a strange revelation Vice President JD Vance made while in Israel during a news conference about the Gaza ceasefire deal.
Vance traveled to Israel to reassure Israeli leadership that the U.S. is committed to the ceasefire deal, according to reports. Some Trump administration officials have expressed concerns that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could thwart the deal because his governing coalition includes some extremist members of the Knesset, the country's Congress.
During a press conference, a reporter asked Vance about his confidence that a ceasefire deal would hold.
"Look, Jared is the investor here," the vice president responded, referring to President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Kushner has previously said that Gaza looks like a "nuclear bomb went off" and that the "waterfront" land beneath the rubble could be "very valuable."
Observers noted that it was strange for Vance to refer to Kushner as an "investor" in response to a question about the ceasefire.
" JD Vance just admitted, on camera, that Jared Kushner — Trump’s son-in-law with no official role in government — is 'the investor' in the Middle East peace talks," media entrepreneur Brian Allen posted on X. "Let that sink in. A private citizen, fresh off billions from foreign sovereign funds, is now negotiating peace deals on behalf of the United States."
"Ladies and gentlemen, the stupidest and most useless vice president of the United States in history," former Massachusetts town council representative Donald Blais Jr. posted on X.
"Saying the quiet part out loud," political commentary account WuTang is for the Children posted on X.
Q: What do you think the likelihood is that the ceasefire lasts?
JD VANCE: *looks at Jared Kushner* Well, Jared is the investor here. I'm not going to give you a percentage. pic.twitter.com/euPsKhrPM3
