Jeanine Pirro's long history of controversial statements comes back to haunt her

Jeanine Pirro made a name for herself as a Fox News host and radio commentator who didn't shy away from conspiratorial and controversial talking points. Now, those comments may be coming back to haunt her as she seeks confirmation for the D.C. prosecutor role that she's been serving in since May 2025.

President Donald Trump appointed Pirro to be D.C.'s interim top prosecutor after pulling the nomination of conservative activist Ed Martin Jr. for the same role. Martin's confirmation sank because of past comments downplaying the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

If Trump were to appoint Pirro for a permanent role, she would need to disclose every media appearance she's made to the U.S. Senate. That could prove problematic for her confirmation chances because she has supported prosecuting law enforcement officers investigating the January 6 attack, promoted conspiracy theories about abortion, and endorsed Trump's discredited theories about widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election, according to an investigation by CNN.

In a November 2024 episode of her weekly radio show, Pirro interviewed a right-wing lawyer named Mike Davis who suggested that the Trump administration should criminally charge Democrat prosecutors who investigated him.

“This can never happen again and we must have consequences for this," Davis said on the show. "I agree with you, Mike," Pirro replied.

Pirro also agreed with Davis' premise that New York Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw Trump's state criminal trial, should face legal consequences for not recusing himself from the case.

The former Fox News host has also amplified conspiracy theories that doctors are killing newborn babies. In a 2019 speech at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida, she said mothers are essentially allowed to decide whether their baby lives or dies after it is born.

There is no state where it is legal for a mother to kill their child after it is born.
