MSNBC producer Steve Benen wrote Friday that as former Justice Department lawyer Jeffrey Clark is expected to testify behind closed doors, the House Jan. 6 Select-Committee is making "real progress."
Thus far, the committee has quietly called over 150 witnesses, according to NBC News. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) told Politico Thursday that the officials have spoken with a "whole range" of those who witnessed a score of things around the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The report claimed that the "public has only seen the tip of the iceberg."
Meanwhile, Trump's lawyers are fighting what legal analysts believe is a losing battle to try and conceal his presidency's documents to avoid criminal investigation surrounding the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The federal judge in the case has already made it clear she's skeptical of the claims. At one point she even laughed at Trump's lawyers, who claimed he was cleared of all wrongdoing involving Jan. 6 by Congress and the FBI. It has prompted many to anticipate she'll release a trove of documents from the Trump presidency in and around Jan. 6 and the campaign that led to it.
Then there was the CNN report that committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) has already issued another round of about 20 subpoenas. Investigators are also already looking to whether a state-level made contacts with one of the rioters who breached the Capitol.
Then there is the Clark testimony, which will endeavor to find answers about the two-page guide he wrote that explained how to circumvent the will of the people and institute Trump as the winner regardless.
