Mike Johnson defies Trump on Epstein: 'Put everything out there'

In a new interview, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called for greater transparency from Attorney General Pam Bondi in the wake of the Justice Department’s report on the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this year, Bondi said that a supposed client list maintained by Epstein for blackmail purposes was “sitting on (her) desk right now to review,” despite the DOJ’s report last week that concluded no such list existed. Speaking on "The Benny Show" this week, right-wing host Benny Johnson urged Bondi to address the discrepancies in her past remarks.

“Pam Bondi, when she originally made the statement, I think she was talking about documents as I understood – she needs to come forward and explain that to everybody,” Johnson said.

“I like Pam, I think she’s done a good job," said Johnson. "We need the DOJ focusing on the major priorities, so let’s get this thing resolved so that they can deal with violent crime, public safety, election integrity, going after ActBlue and the things that the president is most concerned about as we are, so I’m anxious to get this behind us.”

Johnson’s remarks on Epstein come in the wake of Republican outrage, largely among the Trump-faithful, who doubt the validity of the DOJ’s findings on Epstein, or lack thereof. The pushback has been particularly strong among Trump’s core base, a creation largely of Trump’s own doing, having appointed several cabinet members who pushed conspiracies around Epstein for years.

“I’m for transparency; we’re intellectually consistent on this; Reagan used to tell us we should trust the American people, and I believe in that principle, and I know President Trump does as well,” Johnson said.

“It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide it," Johnson added. "The White House team are privy to facts that I don’t know. This isn’t my lane, but I agree with the sentiment that we need to put it out there.”
