While aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump made a startling admission that he didn’t believe he was “heaven-bound,” an admission that New York Times writer Wajahat Ali suspected was a clear sign that the president realized “his sins will be uncovered.”
“Maybe the fading, 79-year-old, cankled Commander in Chief realizes that the Epstein Files are bound to come out and all of his alleged sins will be uncovered,” Ali wrote Monday evening on his Substack, “The Left Hook.”
“Maybe he realizes chasing girls with Jeffrey Epstein and living a life indulging in an endless buffet of gluttonous appetites without any remorse or accountability isn’t the best track record to enter the Pearly Gates.”
Trump’s relationship with Epstein – who died in 2019 awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges – has been under heightened scrutiny since The Wall Street Journal’s bombshell report in July that revealed new details about the two’s relationship, suggesting it was more intimate than previously known. The Justice Department holds a trove of unreleased files related to Epstein — files that many of Trump's fans have unsuccessfully pushed to have made public.
Trump’s admission Monday was a notable shift in his rhetoric on the afterlife, a topic he’s referenced more frequently in recent months. In August, Trump said that he hoped to bring about an end to the war in Ukraine in large part due to his belief that it may help him get “to heaven.”
The president made reference again to his fate in the afterlife last week during a White House press conference, noting that his desire to get into heaven dictated much of his behavior and action as president.
“I want to be good because you want to prove to God you’re good so you go to that next step, right?” Trump said last week.
Trump’s shift, declaring he likely wasn’t going to heaven, was noteworthy, Ali argued, who suspected that the president saw the writing on the wall as it relates to history with Epstein, and that it would soon be uncovered.
“Like a broken clock, even a congenital liar and fraudster can be correct once in a while. Yesterday, Trump did something rare, which is to tell the truth,” Ali wrote.
“...Regardless, Trump is a man who realizes he has less time ahead of him, and as his poll numbers continue to plummet, he’ll do anything to ensure he goes out on top, even if he destroys the country and his own base in the process.”
