White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday brushed back criticism from Newsmax reporter Emerald Robinson about Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg taking paternity leave.
During a press briefing, Robinson cited a poll showing that a majority of voters think that Buttigieg "should come back to work" given the current challenges in delivering goods across the United States.
"He's at work," Psaki replied.
"He's on paternity leave," Robinson said.
"I was on a conference call with him this morning," replied Psaki.
"He's in the department now, every day?" asked Robinson.
"Listen, Emerald, I think what you're getting at here is this question of whether men, parents, women, should have paternity and maternity leave," she said. "And the answer is absolutely yes. In our view, that is the policy of this administration, that is what we're pressing to make law so it's a reality for women, parents, fathers across the country and we're not going to back away from that."
