'No one silences us!' The View finally hits out after ABC cuts Jimmy Kimmel

The day after Jimmy Kimmel was thrown off TV, accused of offensive remarks about the death of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, "The View" was completely mum on the matter.

That silence ended on Monday, however, when co-host Whoopi Goldberg promised that the ABC — the network that canned Kimmel and which also airs "The View" — would not be allowed to control what the hosts say.

"Now, look, did y'all really think we weren't going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel?" Goldberg asked at the top of the show as the panel of women laughed.

"I mean, have you watched 'The View?' Have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? So, you know, no one silences us," she continued.

She revealed that friends in Italy were concerned that they, too, were being thrown off the air.

"We're still here. We're still broadcasting," Goldberg said.

The reason that they didn't speak on the issue for four days, she said, was that they were taking "a breath." The Friday episode was live-to-tape.

"We took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first," Goldberg said. "We did the same thing with Stephen Colbert. Our show was on tape on Friday, but we're live here today. We're getting into it now."

The co-hosts then had a full opening segment about freedom of speech. Goldberg, in particular, noted she doesn't fully understand how President Donald Trump could be the one in charge of the United States, but still not know what's in the Constitution.

Deadline executive editor Dominic Patton told MSNBC on Thursday that he was hearing about a lot of panic out of Disney over the cancellations of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN subscriptions. Company insiders are also concerned that the anger could spill over into family vacations at Disney parks, which have their peak season over the holidays, he said.
