Watch: Howls of protest at Biden's COP27 climate speech

A quartet of protesters briefly interrupted US President Joe Biden's speech at the COP27 summit in Egypt on Friday by howling and trying to unfurl a banner before UN police removed them.

"Carbon offsetting is a false solution," one of them -- apparently an indigenous man from Latin or North America -- shouted as he was escorted away from the venue.

GOP senator Josh Hawley says red wave fizzled because of ‘Washington Republicanism’

Republicans may still gain control of both chambers of Congress, but the “red wave” landslide many were predicting fizzled — leaving the party soul-searching and looking for answers.

Some blame former President Donald Trump’s endorsements of flawed candidates in key races. Others say it was the threat to abortion rights after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs, or the threat to democracy posed by so many election deniers running under the GOP banner.

Michigan GOP finger-pointing underway following Tuesday’s historic loss at the polls

A post-mortem memo on the historic losses suffered Tuesday by the Michigan Republican Party blames candidates being too closely aligned with former President Donald Trump, prompting major donors to withhold their support and leaving the party without the cash needed to compete.

Not only did Democrats sweep the top statewide offices, but they won a 7-6 majority in the congressional delegation, maintained a majority on the Michigan Supreme Court and took both houses of the Legislature for the first time in almost 40 years.

DOJ appeals as Trump-appointed judge blocks student debt cancellation with 'farcical' ruling

The Justice Department filed an appeal Thursday after a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas blocked the Biden administration's student debt cancellation program nationwide, declaring it "unlawful" on grounds that legal experts criticized as laughable.

The 26-page ruling by Mark Pittman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas finds that the two plaintiffs who brought the case with the backing of the Job Creators Network Foundation—an affiliate of a right-wing, billionaire-funded business trade group—have standing to sue over the debt cancellation program because the Biden administration didn't allow a public comment period before moving ahead with the plan.

Republicans rebounded in some suburban Texas counties that had been drifting blue

For two election cycles, Texas Republicans felt the blue waves lapping at the edges of suburban counties that had long been GOP strongholds.

The winning margins for Republicans began to narrow in 2016 when former President Donald Trump was elected. In 2018, counties that hadn’t voted for a Democrat in decades turned out for Beto O’Rourke in his unsuccessful bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. The El Paso Democrat also forced Cruz into single-digit wins in ruby red Republican counties.
