Comedian John Stewart mocked President Donald Trump during his return to host his political satire show "The Daily Show" on Thursday.
Stewart hosted the political satire program from 1999 to 2014. He returned to the program part-time in 2024. The show on Thursday was billed as a "government-approved" version of "The Daily Show" and the set was decked out in gold to resemble Trump's signature style.
His appearance comes on the heels of fellow late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel's eponymous show being indefinitely suspended by ABC. Several experts have said the Trump administration played a part in Kimmel's dismissal.
During the episode, Stewart echoed some of Trump's talking points. For instance, he described New York as a "crime-ridden cesspool" and said, "Someone should send their National Guard in there, am I right?"
He also addressed the tension that seems to be gripping the country in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's slaying.
"If you felt off these last couple of days, it's probably because our Great Father has not been home," Stewart said. "Our Great Father was gracing England with his legendary warmth and radiance. He wowed the English with charm and intelligence, and an undeniable sexual charisma!"
