Dawn Roberts, who served as co-chair of former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley's 2024 presidential campaign, has not followed her one-time candidate's decision to endorse former President Donald Trump.
Writing in the Des Moines Register, Roberts reveals that she will be supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election.
While Roberts didn't initially think she would back Harris's bid for the White House, she said that watching the Democratic National Convention last month began to change her mind.
"This year's Democratic National Convention was almost perfect. Harris had the ability to unite her party immediately," wrote Roberts. "She said she wanted to be the president for “all of the people.” She allowed representatives from a variety of views from her own party, the Republican Party, and world leaders such as Leon Panetta, former defense secretary, to participate in the convention. All reinforced the skills she has to work with domestic and world leaders in representing our country and keeping our military strong."

Roberts also drew an implicit contrast with former President Donald Trump, who has gained political power over the years through divisive and even apocalyptic rhetoric.
"I heard [Harris] articulate that she has always brought groups of diverse individuals and opinions together to solve problems," wrote Roberts. "That is a healthier and wiser way to lead. At this month's debate, she continued to impress, looking at the audience and emphasizing bringing the country together rather than dividing, lifting people up rather than tearing people down."
