CBS host nails Ken Buck for supporting Mike Johnson while opposing 'election deniers'

CBS host Margaret Brennan confronted Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) because he has had tough criticism for election deniers while supporting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who helped lead efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Buck, who is retiring from Congress, has been vocal about calling out election "lies."

"You said too many Republican leaders are lying to America," Brennan noted in a Sunday interview. "Who do you have in mind when you said that?"

"Everybody who thinks that the election was stolen or talks about the election being stolen is lying to America," Buck replied. "That's everyone that is making that argument. Everyone who makes the argument that January 6th was an unguided tour of the Capitol is lying to America."

"Everyone who says that the prisoners who are being prosecuted right now for their involvement in January 6th, that they are somehow political prisoners or that they didn't commit crimes, those folks are lying to America," the lawmaker said.

Brennan pressed Buck about why he supported Johnson, an election denier.

"You know that the Speaker of the House tried to reverse the 2020 election results by signing onto that Texas amicus brief," Brennan said. "By CBS standards, that makes him an election denier, but you support him."

"I do support him," Buck insisted. "I signed onto that brief also, and I believe that going through the courts to challenge an election is absolutely proper, and it's been done dozens of times in American history."

"Mike was not the leader of the party at the time that so many Republicans voted against the certification of electors," he added.

Buck said that he hoped Johnson became "more clear" about the outcome of the 2020 election.

For his part, Johnson has refused to say that Joe Biden won the presidency fairly.
