Republicans are on the brink of finally losing a race in Texas as a result of nominating scandal-plagued attorney general Ken Paxton, former GOP strategist Steve Schmidt said on his "The Warning" show.
Paxton, whom Schmidt dubbed "the greatest freakshow of all time," is currently down in polls to Democrat James Talarico, he said. "Ted Cruz has said Ken Paxton is losing. And here's John Cornyn, the stagnant, corrupt incumbent Texas senator who was taken out by Paxton in the primary and is bitter about it, doesn't understand what happened, doesn't appreciate he's living proof of the wisdom of John Kennedy's admonition, which is beware of trying to ride the tiger, because you wind up inside," who is refusing to fundraise for Paxton.
As if all that isn't bad enough, noted Schmidt, Paxton landed himself in yet more controversy by defending a sweetheart deal for a child predator and advocating more data center construction because "there's plenty of open space in Texas."
Even Trump, said Schmidt, understands Paxton is a deeply flawed candidate, because he keeps joking at rallies about how ugly and ill-dressed he is, all while he's supposed to be hyping him up as his endorsed candidate.
"At any rate, Republicans — MAGA — they're going down in Texas. They're going down in Iowa. They're going down in Florida and South Carolina," said Schmidt. "All across the country, these MAGA sycophants have come to their end" — and it's coming because white non-college voters, the core of the Trump coalition, are beginning to abandon him.
"When it comes to rejecting the worst, there's a lot of places to look, but there's truly no one worse in the entire land running for federal office than this buffoon in Texas, Ken Paxton," said Schmidt. "What a disgrace. Now, the U.S. Senate is filled with them, but even this guy is a bridge too far. And that's why he's going to lose."
