Tensions are still reportedly sky-high within the House Republican conference after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) at least temporarily agreed to end his bid for the speakership.
A Republican source tells Axios reporter Juliegrace Brufke that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) "screamed" at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Thursday as Gaetz tried to speak up during a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill.
What's more, writes Brufke, the source claims Rep. Michael Bost (R-IL) was "almost lunging" at Gaetz at one point.

McCarthy during the meeting was making the case for empowering Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) to pass legislation on the House floor, which is something that Gaetz and his fellow hardliner Republicans have criticized.
Gaetz, of course, is the main reason why this is all happening in the first place, as it was his decision to file a motion to vacate the chair and oust McCarthy as speaker that set the last two weeks of chaos in motion.
Since then, Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) have both made bids for the speakership, only to see their campaigns come up short with multiple failures to gain the needed votes of the majority of the House.
