Trump claims he goes 'through hell' to get stuff done in Washington
U.S. President Donald Trump reacts as he leaves after signing a resolution approved by Congress to rescind the EPA's 2023 approval of California's plans to require a rising number of zero-emission heavy-duty trucks, and another resolution on California's low-NOx, or low-nitrogen oxide, regulation for heavy-duty highway and off-road vehicles and engines, at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., June 12, 2025.

President Donald Trump claimed Thursday he “has to go through hell” to get stuff approved in Washington.

The remark came during a press conference after he signed a bill which kills California’s ban on gas-powered cars.

“There are several no-king protests planned across the country on Saturday,” Newsmax White House Correspondent Mike Carter asked. “What are your thoughts on those?”

“What are they called?” Trump asked.

“No kings,” Carter replied

“I don't feel like a king.” Trump quipped. “I have to go through hell to get stuff approved.” The seemingly snide remark got a resounding laugh from the room.

“A king would say I'm not going to get this. A king would have never had the California mandate to even be talking [about],” Trump went on to say, “[A king] wouldn't have to call up [House Speaker] Mike Johnson and [Senator John] Thune and say, ‘fellas, you got to pull this off,’ and after years we get it done.”

“Nah, Nah,” Trump said, “We are not a king at all.”

There are several ‘no kings’ protests happening across the United States this weekend in response to Trump’s military parade on Saturday.

The parade commemorates the 250th birthday of the Army, which is June 14. The day also coincides with Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday.
