'Bottom of the barrel': Internet torches Kristi Noem over 3-day disaster delay

The internet erupted on Wednesday after a bombshell report by CNN revealed that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem waited three days before approving disaster aid for Texas after the deadly Kerr County flood.

CNN reported on Wednesday, citing four anonymous sources, that the Federal Emergency Management Agency ran into roadblocks when officials tried to release aid to Texas communities impacted by the flood. Those roadblocks were created by a new agency rule that requires expenditures over $100,000 to be approved by Noem personally, according to the report.

"This reporting is an unapparelled (sic) display of activist journalism and distracts from the robust, coordinated federal response led by Secretary Noem that has saved over 900+ lives," DHS said in a post on X about the CNN story.

The internet didn't hold back in responding to the CNN report.

"Outrageous," Republicans Against Trump posted on X.

"I'd assumed that Kristi Noem was just an average, run-of-the-mill, deplorable Trumpist," Bill Kristol, editor at large for The Bulwark, posted on X. "But I underestimated her stupidity, cruelty, and vulgarity. She's really bottom of the barrel. And of course she heads an agency that's at the heart of Trump's authoritarian takeover."

"My god, this administration is stupid as f---," another X user posted.

"On Fox, Kristi Noem said leaving Texas flood victims to fend for themselves is exactly what Trump envisioned when he scaled back FEMA’s role in disaster response," reads another X post. "Nothing says 'pro-life' quite like leaving people to die while Trump plays golf."
