Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been rushed to a Washington, D.C., hospital in an ambulance, CNN reported Tuesday afternoon.
“Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told CNN.
According to the report, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed that she was conscious and had spoken to her security detail. The outlet said several Secret Service agents were posted at entrances outside the emergency room.
Noem, 53, has spent the better part of her first several months in office attending immigration raids and visiting the brutal El Salvador prison, where numerous migrants were sent from the United States without a trial.
