The nation is Trumped out, according to a former White House reporter.
"This is the last gasp of Trumpism," Brian Karem said, following another Speaker-less day where the GOP failed to drum up enough support to eek Rep. Jim Jordan the 217 votes required to get the plum gig. Karem quoted "multiple sources" in making that conclusion.
Karem's reporting with political sources suggests there may be a case of MAGA fatigue spreading amongst the Republicans.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
He suspects that since former President Donald Trump was voted out as commander-in-chief to retreat to Mar-a-Lago and given the House being stuck in stalemate over picking a leader to wield the gavel -- it all spells doomsday for the movement.
"Driven from the White House, now denied power in the House, it is obvious the nation has grown weary with Trump, his acolytes (Jordan) and his grifting," Karem added.
"Trump will soon be broke & may end up in prison. Moving on."
The D.C. insider's reportage comes after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) resolute to not seek another vote after coming up short on a second day for his candidacy to claim the Speaker title.
That changed after a four-hour meeting with the House Republican Conference that had the pol finding a third wind to fight another day.
"His decision came after a furious backlash from rank-and-file Republicans including many of his far-right supporters, who said empowering Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) — a stand-in appointed to his post after the ouster of then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy — would effectively cede control of the House floor to Democrats and set a bad precedent," said the New York Times.
The Washington Post charted Jordan, who came up 20 votes short in the second ballot on Wednesday, to be unable to reach staunch disbelievers in a third vote.
