Right-wing talk show host Erick Erickson, who is also a longtime Republican insider, lobbed a brutal attack on Thursday against Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA, whom he accused to grifting conservative donors for financial gain.

Writing at his Substack, Erickson accused Kirk and his allies of deceiving conservative donors by trying to get them to donate money to Turning Point for a supposed get-out-the-vote effort for the 2024 elections.

"Turning Point seems to operate more as a grift operation taking from the elderly wealthy to fund parties, properties, and good times," writes Erickson, who says that the group's request for a $100 million get-out-the-vote fund "could fund a national GOTV effort" for competent and experienced operatives.

Erickson also notes that, even if Turning Point were staffed with highly competent people with long experience running successful campaigns, they would nonetheless be legally barred from coordinating with GOP campaigns.

"Under federal law, only the national political party committees can coordinate with their candidates," argues Erickson. "No other entity can do that. The Republican and Democratic National Committees can coordinate GOTV operations with their candidates, fund explicitly partisan GOTV efforts, design media and advertising, and fund their candidates’ campaigns. Non-profits, like Turning Point USA, cannot engage in partisan voter registration efforts."

Erickson concludes by warning that the GOP will be headed toward certain defeat if significant funds are diverted from the RNC to Turning Point.

"If the grifters, hucksters, and charlatans of the right successfully sap its money, they can expand their homes, but they will do so in Joe Biden’s second term," he argues. "Of course, many of these groups have made losing quite profitable and never then have to be burdened with actual governance."
