Donald Trump's hardcore base is showing major cracks under the strain of his latest crisis — and interviews with his MAGA fans show it.
The New York Times spoke to six people who voted for Trump in last year’s election — and found they were far from delighted with the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
After campaigning on the promise to release files many believe link powerful people to Epstein’s sex crimes, Trump’s administration announced this month that there is no client list. It sparked uproar among his base.
"I don't know what's true or not true,” said Arizona voter Rachel Uecker. “The whole thing just makes me want to vomit."
Erwin McKone, a 55-year-old Trump voter from Flint, Michigan, didn't mince words about the president's handling of the case.
"That thing will never see the light of day, and he knew it was never going to see the light of day,’ he said.
"They'll embarrass world leaders, business leaders, bankers. No one's ever going to see it, because everyone's involved."
Other Trump voters also refused to let the president off the hook. Tanya Wright, 45, from Yuma, Arizona, is demanding transparency: "I say, just put it all out into the light. Let's follow it wherever it takes us. We don't know who did what."
The continued revelations of Trump’s past friendship with Epstein also shocked, despite being well-documented in the past.
"I was sickened, to tell you the truth,” Naomi Villalba, 75, from Dallas
Uecker laid down a clear ultimatum for Trump: "If somehow Mr. Trump were involved in some aspect of the case, then yeah, he shouldn't be running our country."
