Shane Jenkins, a Texas man who participated in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to seven years in prison after calling Donald Trump a "grifter" in court documents.
Raw Story previously reported that Jenkins' attorneys argued that the people who told lies about the 2020 election being stolen, including former President Donald Trump, deserve to be held accountable just as much as their client.
At that time, he was staring down a potentially lengthy prison sentence.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
CBS News' Scott MacFarlane reported the information online. MacFarlane also reported that the Justice Department was seeking a 19-year prison term for Jenkins.
"Judge sentences Capitol riot defendant Shane Jenkins to SEVEN YEARS in prison," MacFarlane wrote. "And orders $5176 in restitution."
He added that, "Feds argued Jenkins 'joined other rioters in a concerted assault on the officers defending the tunnel.'"
Jenkins allegedly "planned for violent insurrection long before his arrival," led a breach, "repeatedly hurled dangerous projectiles at officers," and "took to social media to revel in... violent conduct," according to MacFarlane's reports.
Federal prosecutors have singled Jenkins out as a particularly "egregious" Capitol rioter whom they say "planned for violent insurrection long before his arrival" in Washington D.C. for the now-infamous "Stop the Steal" rally on January 6th, 2021.
As prosecutors documented, Jenkins brought a "sharp-bladed tomahawk" with him to Washington, D.C. and also threw a desk drawer and a flagpole at police during the riots at the Capitol.
