Maggie Haberman says Trump spilled his guts after attacking her

Former President Donald Trump is apparently confiding with reporters whom in the past he has dubbed the "Enemy of the People."

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman claimed on Wednesday night he's been eager to shoot the breeze in private with reporters whom he publicly attacks.

"The way he is, he will always engage with a reporter eventually if he sees some reason to, so he called me the other day," she admitted during an appearance on CNN's "King Charles".

This admission caused hosts Charles Barkley and Gayle King to make sure they heard her right.

"He called you the other day," King asked.

"For the first time in a long time," Haberman said. "He wanted to talk about these cases and these trials. I was writing a story about how politics and the courts would converge again in January, a couple weeks ago. And he called to say that he wanted to attend all these trials, and to talk about his attacks on the judge in the civil case to talk about E. Jean Carroll; much of what I didn't report on."

The 45th president appeared to want Haberman's ear and insight because to him, nobody better can defend Trump but Trump.

She added: "He thinks he's his own best defender and you will see more of that."

The writer was asked about the months of campaigning leading up to the Nov. 5 contest when the GOP candidate tries to send Pres. Joe Biden packing.

"I think this is going to be a pretty bleak campaign on many levels," Haberman said. "I think that the way that our campaigns are fought now are all about who you hate and who hates you back. And I think you are going to see that to the Nth degree."
