Trump-endorsed North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, who has a history of making inflammatory statements while also deriding people who purportedly lack a sense of personal responsibility, has a troubled history when it comes to filing his income taxes.
An investigation by ABC News has found that Robinson "failed to file income taxes for five years" starting in the late 1990s, and that "after filing for bankruptcy in 2003, the Internal Revenue Service filed a motion for the Bankruptcy Court to compel Robinson to file taxes for the years 1998-2002."
Although Robinson has in the past acknowledged some of his financial struggles during this time period, an examination of financial records by ABC found that they "paint a more dire and detailed picture of his financial and business history than has previously been disclosed," as they also show that he "had previously filed for bankruptcy on two other occasions in 1998 and 1999."
And as if that weren't enough, Robinson and his wife even lost their Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection in 2003 after they failed to comply with the agreed-to repayment plan.

In an interview with ABC News, a Robinson spokesman accused the outlet of partisan bias against him while also not denying any of the essential facts of the story.
"This is old news recycled by the Democrats and their allies in the press to distract the voters," the spokesman said. "As a former factory worker who lost his job due to NAFTA and had his home foreclosed and was even forced into bankruptcy, the Lt. Governor has overcome many challenges — financial and others — in his past. He's lived the struggles that families across North Carolina are facing every day."
Robinson has drawn attention for his multiple inflammatory social media posts, including one where he accused Martin Luther King, Jr. of being a "communist" and another in which he accused pop star Beyoncé of being a "devil worshipper" who is sending her fans "on a fast track to hell."
