MSNBC broke into the daily political discussions to report an active shooter in Las Vegas with "multiple victims" Wednesday afternoon.

At 11:59 a.m. PST, the University of Nevada Las Vegas posted on social media calling for a shelter in place with the note "RUN-HIDE-FIGHT."

"Multiple people have been shot," MSNBC's Katy Tur said, repeating police reports.

The LasVegas Metro Police Department posted on social media: "The campus of UNLV near BEAM Hall. There appears to be multiple victims at this time. Please avoid the area and we will have more information soon."

Local KSNV news said that they were hearing word from the police scanners that the shooter was down as of about 12:33 p.m. PST. MSNBC confirmed the local report that police say the shooter is "contained."

The Metro Police later confirmed the shooter was deceased.
