On the eve of House Democrats passing President Joe Biden's Build Back Better Act, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took to the floor to deliver the longest single speech in the history of the chamber, trashing Democrats in a lengthy and meandering diatribe.
But not everyone in his own caucus was impressed. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who previously on Steve Bannon's podcast panned the speech as "a death rattle," appeared on One America News later in the day and complained that McCarthy's words mean nothing if he won't strip committee assignments from Republicans who didn't follow the Trump party line.
"I guess what Kevin McCarthy lacks in strategy, he makes up for in oratory," said Gaetz. "It rings a little hollow for me. He took eight hours to bloviate about the the maladies in the Democrat legislation, but he wouldn't take eight seconds to remove John Katko as the Republican lead on the Homeland Security Committee after John Katko stabbed Republicans in the back on impeachment, cut a deal with the January 6 commission, and then was the first Republican voting for the legislation that ultimately led to this moment in time we're in now, where Americans are really on the brink."
