Ginger Gaetz, the wife of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), suggested that her husband would not serve in the next Congress after he withdrew as President-elect Donald Trump's next attorney general.
In a statement on Thursday, Matt Gaetz said he was withdrawing because his "confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction" from Trump's agenda.
Ginger Gaetz reacted to her husband's announcement by suggesting his time in the federal government was over.
"The end of an era," she wrote on X. The post included a photo of Ginger Gaetz on the Capitol steps with her husband.
Earlier this month, Gaetz resigned from his seat in Congress after Trump nominated him as the next attorney general.
“I do not intend to take the oath of office for the same office in the 119th Congress to pursue the position of Attorney General in the Trump administration,” the congressman said in his resignation letter.
Matt Gaetz's withdrawal from consideration to be attorney general came just 45 minutes after CNN asked him about allegations of a second sexual encounter with a 17-year-old girl.

"The woman, who was 17 years old at the time, testified that the second sexual encounter, which has not previously been reported, included another adult woman," CNN reported. "She also testified to both sexual encounters in a civil deposition as part of a related lawsuit, sources said."
Matt Gaetz has repeatedly denied that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.
