A Justice Department prosecutor who played an outsized role in the Jeffrey Epstein case was ousted Wednesday, according to a report.

Maurene Comey, who is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey — himself a perceived foe of President Donald Trump — was fired from the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, two people familiar with the matter told Politico. The reasoning behind her termination wasn't immediately known.

Maurene Comey helped prosecute both Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, according to the report. Her firing comes amid a growing rift between Trump and MAGA fans disillusioned by the conclusion there's no Epstein "client list" filled with names of powerful elites interconnected with the billionaire financier's sex trafficking ring.

Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have been at odds with the MAGA base for deciding not to release more files in the Epstein case.

The Trump administration is also reportedly investigating James Comey over the 2016 Russia probe as well as a social media post this year in which Comey shared a photo of seashells arranged on a sandy beach that said, "86 47."

Barry Levine, author of "The Spider: Inside the Criminal Web of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell," praised Maureene Comey on CNN Wednesday evening as an "excellent part" of the prosecuting team.

"She was knocked down because of her dad, and it's sad," he said.
