House Speaker Kevin McCarthy bucked the MAGA cult when he funded the government for another 45 days, according to lawmakers.

The U.S. Congress on Saturday passed a stopgap bill to avert the potential government shutdown, but McCarthy had to work with Democrats to do it.

Dem lawmakers said after the vote that they were surprised McCarthy defied the fringe of his party.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat, said that he "really admires" McCarthy for putting clowns like Biggs and Gaetz "in an absolute box."

"They’ll never have the courage to try and remove him. McCarthy has really played them," Swalwell added.

Rep. Daniel Goldman, a fellow Dem, said he agrees with Swalwell.

"I agree. I didn’t think [McCarthy] had the backbone to stand up to the MAGA extremists, but he did today," Goldman said Saturday. "Finally, he chose to be Speaker of the whole House, not just Speaker of the MAGA cult."

"I guess he thinks Gaetz doesn’t have the cajones to vacate him," he wrote in the post.
