Meghan McCain, former co-host of "The View" and daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, compared CNN anchor Jake Tapper to O.J. Simpson this week.

The comment came during an episode of "Next Up with Mark Halperin" on Thursday, in which she was asked her view on Tapper's explosive new book, "Original Sin," which accused former President Joe Biden's circle of shielding the president and covering up cognitive decline, leading to sweeping losses for Democrats in the 2024 election.

McCain said she's known Tapper since she was a child, as the anchor used to cover John McCain's campaigns.

"I used to think he was a really straightforward journalist," said McCain. "And then in the past, in the beginning of Trump era, maybe even a little before that, I really put him in the basket of being a biased, quite frankly, hack journalist that my conservative friends not only wouldn't trust but felt like he would intentionally go out of the way to paint a negative picture of conservatives."

She said she couldn't maintain any relationship with Tapper as she didn't trust he was "genuine or altruistic."

McCain said when she learned Axios reporter Alex Thompson had teamed up with Tapper to write a book about Biden, she made an eye-popping statement.

"I literally — I jokingly told my friend, it's like O.J. Simpson's 'If I Did It' book. Like I thought it was ridiculous and just quite frankly I think it's just journalistic malfeasance," she added. "And he's kind of dancing a little bit right now, saying he should've had more humility in his reporting and that he should have known better."

McCain wasn't swayed by Tapper's explanation, however, asserting that as many as thousands of reporters covered Biden "the right way."

"There's millions and millions of Americans who saw what he was unable to see," she said.
