Day two of Michael Cohen testifying in Donald Trump's fraud trial kicked off Wednesday with the witness accusing the defendant's lawyer of yelling at him.
It followed an eventful first day of testimony Tuesday in which Trump's former lawyer Cohen took to that stand and occasionally called his own objections – which triggered Trump's lawyers so much that Chris Kise shot out of his chair to exclaim, "Your, honor, the witness is out of control," prompting the courtroom to erupt with laughter.
The Messenger's Adam Klasfeld and MSNBC's Lisa Rubin were among those live-tweeting from the courtroom Wednesday.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
Trump attorney Alina Habba continued her line of questioning that Cohen pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 2018, despite saying since that he had never committed the crime and felt pressure to take a deal. They are attempting to use that as an example of Cohen lying under oath to discredit him.
The lawyers then began a debate over the Fifth Amendment.
"There's nothing wrong with calling a liar a liar," Kise said.
Habba reinforced that Cohen "lied" when he pleaded guilty in 2018.
She moved on to talk about Cohen's role in the "statements of financial condition" that were used to justify the false net worth of Trump's business as he attempted to purchase properties. Cohen claimed that Habba doesn't understand how the Trump Org worked. It was a “constant carousel” of the top-tier execs walking in and out of Trump’s office, he said.
Habba tried to imply that Cohen was part of those consulting on the real estate side of the Trump Org., which was contested. Cohen explained he was more "brand expertise," and he doesn't have any expertise in real estate.
Habba was evidently raising her voice during her questions, prompting Cohen to ask, “I have answered every question that you want. Why are you screaming at me?”
Before Cohen appeared in court, he talked about whether Habba could make it through the questioning without being admonished by the judge.
“It’s hard to answer that question as it all depends on how far Alina tries to deviate from direct examination; all in an attempt to score brownie points with Donald," said Cohen on Sunday.
