House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) faced backlash from members of Congress after he accused Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) of "storming" Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's news conference.
"Did federal agents go too far in the way they treated Senator Padilla today?" Fox News correspondent Chad Pergram asked the speaker.
"I think the Senator's actions, my view is it was wildly inappropriate," Johnson claimed. "You don't charge a sitting cabinet secretary... They have to restrain someone who is engaging in that kind of behavior."
"And when members go into these settings and act this way, that when they push law enforcement agents around, when they storm cabinet secretaries in a press conference, I think it is wildly inappropriate behavior and I think it sets a terrible message in tone for the rest of the country," he added.
As Johnson was speaking, members of the Hispanic caucus reportedly shouted back.
"That's a lie!" they yelled, according to correspondent Olivia Beavers.
"I asked what they said was a lie, and one Rep said it was in response that Sen. Padilla rushed the stage," Beavers reported.
