President Joe Biden responded after Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives elected Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) as the next speaker of the House.
In a floor vote on Wednesday, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) received 209 votes to Johnson's 220 votes.
At a press conference following the vote, Biden said he was not worried about Johnson leading an attempt to overturn the next election. The congressman is considered to be an architect of a plan to keep former President Donald Trump in office in 2021.
"Just like I was not worried the last guy would be able to overturn the election," the president added. "I understand the constitution."
