MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell's decision to defend himself in the multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit against him is a "mistake" and his opponent's attorneys will "run circles around him," according to a law expert.
"Lindell is making a mistake," said Neama Rahmani, president of the West Coast Trial Lawyers law firm, in an interview with Newsweek. "He's not a lawyer and has never tried a case."
"Dominion's attorneys are going to run circles around him."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
The pillow salesman, tycoon and diehard supporter of Donald Trump's stolen election claim is being taken to court by Dominion Voting System, along with its competitor Smartmatic, and a former Dominion staffer named Eric Coomer. They claim Lindell of publicly blaming them for rigging the presidential election.
Lindell's decision to go it alone in court comes days after he had publicly solicited for funds because he claimed he couldn't cover his mounting legal fees.
That public appeal for cash trailed the decision that his legal team made seeking to quit the chief executive client, claiming they are owed millions of dollars in unpaid bills and expenses in his fight to defend him in the defamation lawsuits.
"We've lost everything, every dime," Lindell said last week. "All of it is gone."
Attorney Andrew Parker wrote in documents filed in federal court in St. Paul, Minnesota earlier this month that continuing to defend Lindell would put the attorneys “in serious financial risk."
Lindell disclosed to his lawyers back on Oct. 2, that he and his company were “not able to get caught up or make any payment” on the “millions of dollars” he owed, according to the New York Times.
Raw Story's messages to Parker were not immediately returned.
In an interview with Newsweek, the Lindell praised his attorneys' fight and dedication to the case.
"These lawyers were courageous," he said. "They took on a case where every other lawyer in this country is afraid to take on any case against the electronic voting machines and the evil that's out there. This was a great group of attorneys... and they need to get paid; and if there's no money to pay them, they can't keep going."
