Former Rep. Mike Rogers was once in the FBI but now that he's running for U.S. Senate, he is saying that the FBI is corrupt.
The former Republican congressman who is now fighting for Michigan's open Senate seat once served as an FBI agent. But, since Donald Trump fired former FBI director James Comey and nominated the present one, Christopher Wray, Republicans have taken aim at the agency – particularly since its investigations of Trump.
"Congresswoman," former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said to Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) on MSNBC Monday, "I am so frustrated every day by the men and some women, but primarily men, who you work around every day that are the antithesis of what Cassidy Hutchinson is. They're a 180 from her." Hutchinson is the former aide of Trump's Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who has a soon-to-be-published book exposing her experience in the White House.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"I'm wondering if you have any insight as to how they can keep putting one foot in front of the other while doing and saying the things they're doing? I was shocked when I saw that Mike Rogers ad for the Senate. Have you seen it?"
McCaskill explained that Rogers says, among other things, that as a former FBI agent he now finds the FBI corrupt.
"That's outrageous," said a disgusted Lofgren. "Outrageous! He knows that's a lie."
"Yeah. I mean, he was deeply steeped in the intelligence community in Congress and widely respected," said McCaskill. "I'm not afraid to say there are Republicans who were widely respected. How in the world do you square the circle between the Mike Rogers who understands the intelligence community and the Mike Rogers running for office saying the entire FBI is corrupt?"
Lofgren explained that she works with Republican members of Congress on a number of issues.
She maintains, "Some have tremendous integrity and intelligence and I enjoy working with them." The MAGA extremists, she continues, "lie and make things up. How they live with themselves, I don't fully understand. I was interested in Sen. [Mitt] Romney's comment that when all is said and done. Best case, you'll be a footnote in history, but your family will know what you did. How can you live with yourself knowing that you're telling a lie to get power? I don't understand it."
