A Republican Minnesota state senator was quick to apologize this week after he labeled a female airline pilot a "stewardess."
As a video posted by Heartland Signal shows, First Officer for Delta Air Lines Laura Haynor went before the state senate to testify at a hearing about employee sick time modifications.
In her introductory remarks, she clearly identified herself as a pilot and said that she was testifying at the hearing on behalf of the Airline Pilots Association International.
Despite this, Minnesota State Sen. Gene Dornink misidentified her occupation when it came his turn to ask her a question.
"Ms. Haynor, is that correct?" he began.
"Yes," Haynor replied.

"Can you tell me what a typical workweek looks like for you as a stewardess?" he asked, using a term that is seen as an antiquated word to describe flight attendants.
"I'm a first officer for Delta," Haynor immediately replied.
"Pardon me?" asked Dornink.
"I'm a pilot," Haynor said.
"I'm sorry!" Dornink said. "I apologize, I don't know why I said that, I'm so sorry."
Haynor appeared slightly irritated and then informed the state senator that schedules for pilots vary greatly and that the airline gives out schedules only one month at a time.
