The pro-Trump Mayor of Riverton, Utah is vowing to end Sen. Mitt Romney's (R-UT) political career.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs is making a run at Romney's Senate seat, and he cited Romney's decision to twice vote to convict former President Donald Trump on impeachment charges as one reason.

"The only thing I’ve seen him fight for are the establishment, wokeness, open borders, impeaching President Trump and putting us even deeper into debt," declared Staggs in a video announcing his campaign.

Staggs also took shots at Romney for being a "a career politician" and "a Massachusetts millionaire."

“I’m a mayor, a businessman, husband and father who wants his children to grow up with the same opportunities that I did," he said. "And I’m running for United States Senate to make sure that they do.”

Romney has been a frequent target for Trump supporters over his decision to not only twice vote to convict Trump and remove him from office, but also to frequently criticize the former president by labeling him unfit for office.

Romney was the only Republican to vote in favor of convicting Trump at his first impeachment trial, but he was joined by six other Senate Republicans to convict him in the second trial for inciting a deadly riot at the United States Capitol building.
