U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth just "threw Jesus under the bus," according to MSNBC's Morning Joe Thursday.

Joe Scarborough, a former Republican lawmaker with experience around White House appointees, raised his concern early on in the show. While the hosts were introducing the topics of the day, Scarborough asks, "Did you see he threw Jesus under the bus?" while he was being grilled by lawmakers.

"It's like you get you get put in the corner and Jesus is your get out of jail free card?" he said before quoting Hegseth who said, "I don't believe anything except the bible."

"Yeah, okay. Well, great," Scarborough added. "Yeah, we all do. But that really? That's the only thing?"

He continued speaking as his co-host attempted to move on.

"Not the Magna Carta? Not the Constitution?" he asked.
