Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) drew widespread attention and ridicule on Tuesday when she walked around the Capitol wearing a large scarlet "A" on her shirt to symbolize her supposed martyrdom in voting last week to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker of the House of Representatives.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a one-time colleague of Mace, took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to explain the South Carolina congresswoman's seemingly erratic behavior.

"It’s important to remember... Nancy Mace will play like she is being brave with her vote," Kinzinger wrote. "I know for a fact she almost voted to impeach Trump. She didn’t have the courage to, now she is desperately trying to be liked. It’s not courage it’s creepy."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

On the day after the January 6th, 2021 riots at the United States Capitol building, Mace made several scathing comments about former President Donald Trump lying to his followers about the 2020 election, and appeared to be open to voting to impeach him.

Since then, however, she has mostly fallen in line with the MAGA wing of the party and even went so far as to film a video outside Trump Tower to beg for the former president's support.
