'Haven't laughed this hard': GOP lampooned for sharing obvious spoof Dem document

The National Republican Congressional Committee, the branch of the GOP that works to elect members of the House, is being trashed for releasing what it called a "leaked memo" from the Democratic Party it claimed was "found on DC street" — and which onlookers said was clearly a spoof.

The top of the memo reads the phrase "leaked memo" and "Prepared by: DCCC Braintrust" with the subject line "Our Vision for America When We Retake the House Majority in 2026."

It also includes an RNCC disclaimer at the bottom.

"NRCC NOTE: This is the America Democrats want to build. Higher taxes. Open borders. Skyrocketing gas prices. No more gas cars. Crime in the streets. Pronouns before commonsense. No more freedom. House Republicans are the only thing standing between you and the nightmare of 'Project 2026.'"

The apparently fake "memo" prompted swift dissing from those online.

"Haven’t laughed this hard in a very long time," said Kentucky Young Democrats president Allison Wiseman on X.

The Bulwark's Joe Perticorn agreed, mocking, "I always put 'LEAKED MEMO' at the top of my top secret memos."

“Everyone hates how we are governing so to keep power we will embrace a new strategy of forging documents," mocked deputy chief of staff Aaron Fritschner.

House staffer Marc Chaaban exclaimed, "Holy s--t I just found this top-secret White House memo from Trump on the street in DC," the obvious fake used a silly font and listed "Cover-up Epstein" three times in the bullet-pointed strategy.

"I love that this is on DCCC letterhead despite clearly being a NRCC writeup. Do they really expect anyone to believe the Dems labeled this a 'Leaked Memo' and plan to 'bring back waste' and become 'less rational?'" asked Johnson Newspapers reporter Alex Gault.

"This gives me solace. I'll never be worse at my job than this," American Bridge communications director Monica Venzke said on X.

"Somehow people believe this s--t is real. No one in the history of anything has titled a document 'LEAKED MEMO,'" said former Joe Biden and Kamala Harris spokesman Seth Schuster.

"Apparently using your rival's letterhead/logo without permission is fair game now per NRCC. Get to downloading and copypasta-ing, everybody!" cracked former Capitol Hill reporter for the Huffington Post, Jonathan Nicholson.

Opposition researcher Jake Hofmann put the whole thing in context: "Prices went up again last month, and the NRCC is posting rage bait on the timeline instead of being serious about inflation."
