Players of the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game, or MMORPG, Roblox are terrorizing other players by conducting their own "immigration raids," posing in the game as ICE agents.
Players have their avatar dress up as an ICE agent and break into the homes of other players to "arrest" people, The Mirror reported this week.
"While performing 'border patrol' surveillance, they had 'arrested' a user who was hiding in his kitchen and pursued another player," the report said.
A TikTok user posted a video showing one player sitting in their virtual home when several other players began banging on their door. In another incident, those pretending to be ICE officers began shooting anti-ICE protesters.
Teen Vogue reported that art imitated life when thousands of players took to the virtual streets to protest the ICE raids within the game.
The report spoke with a 17-year-old high school student named Simon Gutierrez, who was told that he couldn't attend the "No Kings" protest in real life. So, he organized one in Roblox.
“A lot of young people really want to protest and put their words and beliefs out there, but are unable to, so this is the only thing we can turn to,” Gutierrez said.
The overwhelming majority of players on the platform are under 25, with "about 40% of Roblox’s daily users ... under the age of 13, according to the company, 21% are between the ages of 17 to 24."
