Lawmakers in North Carolina announced a redistricting plan that was expected to add at least one more Republican seat ahead of the midterm elections.
According to The Associated Press, the state's legislature will vote next week on redrawing the district boundaries, which already heavily favor Republicans.
In a statement, Republican lawmakers said the plan "follows President Donald Trump's call urging legislatures across the country to take action to nullify Democrat redistricting efforts."
A district map created by Republicans in 2023 resulted in the GOP holding 10 of the state's 14 seats. In 2022, Democrats and Republicans both held seven seats.
The move from North Carolina Republicans follows redistricting efforts in Texas and Missouri that were designed to benefit GOP candidates.
