A host on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ Infowars pleaded guilty Friday to playing a part in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Owen Shroyer led rioters in chants near the entrance to the building, but didn’t enter it, the Associated Press reported. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally entering a restricted area.
He’s facing up to a year in prison when he’s sentenced in September.
Shroyer is the host of “The War Room With Owen Shroyer” on Jones’ website.
Among his chants, he led a crowd in shouts of “death to tyranny! Death to tyrants!" the AP said.
He also said that he and Jones tried to “deescalate” the situation.
But prosecutors said, "Harkening to the last time Americans overthrew their government in a revolution while standing on the Capitol steps where elected representatives are certifying a Presidential Election you disagree with does not qualify as de-escalation."
