Your scandal of the week, this time with S-E-X

I hope someone's actually collecting all the Bush administration scandals and crimes, because it would be awesome to publish a report of it and send it out to the media a week before the election as a reminder of what we can expect 4 more years of if we elect McCain. Now some more has been added to the rap sheet, including felony-level kickback consumption. This time, it's the Department of the Interior, and as you can imagine, it's a flood of bribes and hiring cronies briefly only to streamline them into expensive (for the taxpayer) "consulting" gigs doing the same half-assed work they were doing on the federal employee payroll.

Videos, newspapers, and pills in school!

Marc and I have started a new video series for RH Reality Check, and I'm hoping all you bloggers out there who write about these issues can bookmark it and use it as a tool. The idea is to take on some controversial areas in reproductive rights and health---especially places where the right has mucked up the conversation---and providing some facts and standard rebuttals to right wing nonsense. There's 12 scheduled between now and December. I picked this one to be an early script because of the "pregnancy pact" myth in Gloucester, Massachusetts, which only got in the news because it was a battle over providing contraception to high school students. Little did I know that another famous pregnant teenager was going to be big in the news. This is the year of the pregnant teen for sure.

How to talk to a Libertarian

I may not have been in Roy's shoes (although I did work in a retail warehouse for a couple years), but I'm smart enough to know that he couldn't be more right in his response to Megan McArdle's depressing attempt to normalize her elitism.

Sarah Palin (and John McCain) are sexist

It's interesting watching right wingers attempt to imitate liberals decrying sexism. Forever and ever conservatives have denied that pointing out sexism is a legitimate thing to do, because in Wingnutland, sexism doesn't exist and anyone who says that it does is a whiny, hysterical bitch who can't cut it with the big boys, and so hides behind sexism. In other words, they argue that the sexism card is generally pulled in bad faith.

McCain announces 'Truth Squad' to counter attacks on Palin

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up...this bit of Truthiness landed in my inbox from the folks with only a casual relationship to the truth, the RNC and the McCain/Palin camp. Note the lack of prominent Republican women (or men for that matter) on this list (where's Kay Bailey Hutchison?) ; this was the best they could scrape up. I'm not surprised that the tool from my state, Virginia Foxx, is on the list, and as far as fact-checking goes, Sue Myrick's from NC, not FL.
