U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta shot down Peter Navarro Thursday after the former White House adviser's lawyers claimed he "accepted responsibility" for contempt of Congress.
At a sentencing hearing, Mehta immediately discounted claims of Navarro's contrition for defying a congressional subpoena from the Jan. 6 Committee.

Mehta said that it was difficult to reconcile Navarro's sentencing memo with his purported acceptance of responsibility.
"The idea that somehow he has exhibited clear demonstration of acceptance [of responsibility] is sort of hard to reconcile with the plain reading of those words," Mehta said, according to Politico's Kyle Cheney.
"I haven't heard a word of contrition from Dr. Navarro since this case began," the judge added. "Maybe we'll hear some today, I suspect not."
