Jeanine Pirro poised to be hauled before Congress over Reflecting Pool fiasco

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro can expect to be hauled before the House Judiciary Committee after Democrats take control in January.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the panel’s ranking Democrat, made clear Thursday that the former Fox News personality is on his list, the Daily Beast reported.

“We have a lot of things we’d like to talk to her about,” Raskin said during an appearance at George Washington University, where he discussed the midterm results that have turned Donald Trump into a lame duck facing a slew of congressional investigations.

At the top of Raskin’s agenda is Trump’s Reflecting Pool makeover, which the Maryland Democrat mockingly called “the Strait of Warm Ooze,” and Pirro’s role in what came after it.

According to the Beast report, "The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was first drained in April after Trump announced plans to repair leaks and color the pool 'American Flag Blue'—insisting the renovation would cost about $1.5 million and take just a few weeks. But the contractor Trump hired to fix the pool was awarded the job without a competitive bidding process, and the cost has now ballooned to nearly $20 million."

As problems mounted, Trump blamed vandals. Pirro then brought charges against former Olympian David Hearn, who lives in Raskin’s district, accusing him of damaging the site. The case fell apart when prosecutors discovered the damage had actually come from Trump’s own contractor, which had rushed the job to finish in time for the president’s America 250 celebrations.

According to the report, Raskin said he had already written to Pirro.

“Number one, you should pay for Davy Hearn’s legal fees. Number two, get your hands off my constituents,” he reportedly explained.
