Pilots eject before fighter jet crashes into San Diego Harbor

Two pilots have been rescued after ejecting from a fighter plane that crashed into San Diego Harbor.

The U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement that a fishing vessel rescued the pilots after they ditched the plane in the water after the crash Wednesday.

Both pilots were in stable condition. They were in a two-seat EA-18G Growler, according to the U.S. Navy.

"Over the course of 12 days, starting on Jan. 29, 2025, a total of 85 people have died in four major U.S. aviation incidents," Fox News reported Tuesday.

As of Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration reported 37 aviation accidents and incidents ranging from crashes to planes sliding off the runway. That does not include military flights.

On Jan. 29, a midair collision near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. involving an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter resulted in the deaths of all 67 people.

Ten people were killed in an Alaska crash of Bering Air Flight 445 on Feb. 6. It was flying from Unalakleet Airport to Nome Airport.

One person died in a skydiving accident in Arizona at the end of January. Two other skydivers were killed in a separate Arizona incident a few days prior.

Six people died in the Philadelphia crash at the end of January.
