Former "Celebrity Apprentice" and "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Nene Leakes spoke about her complex relationship with President Donald Trump — her former coworker.
In an interview with Vulture for its interview series featuring reality television powerhouses, Leakes described what it was like working with Trump in 2011 when she was cast for the show alongside Dionne Warwick, La Toya Jackson and Star Jones.
"Girl, I don’t need to be talking about Trump," Leakes said when writer Niela Orr asked her about the president.
"She tells me what she tells everyone who asks her about Trump: Leakes never had a problem with him, and he never had a problem with her," Orr wrote. "In fact, she thinks he liked her a lot, so much that he asked her to judge Miss USA and so she judged Miss USA. Trump is the one who introduced her to John Kolaj, the owner of Famous Famiglia Pizza, who gave her a Rolex in 2012 and unleashed a record-breaking number of memes for one awkward interaction."
Leakes gave her candid view of the president.
"What I know about him is I feel like he’s the kind of person that can adapt to any situation," Leakes said.
"That’s not to say I voted for him, no," Leakes added. "I’m not a Republican; I’m okay with saying that. My family is poor, I come from a poor background, so my family were Democrats."
Leakes also explained that she's not satisfied with the "current state of the world" and referenced the spiking price of gas, saying that she recently paid $115 to fill up her car.
"I wish we were in a better place," Leakes added. "I just think the state that we’re in is a tough one. And we can’t do anything about it."
