President Donald Trump promised an off-year Republican National Convention event as his poll numbers and those of Congress continue to fall.

Trump, who is flying to the United Kingdom for a state visit, posted on Truth Social, "The Republicans are going to do a Midterm Convention in order to show the great things we have done since the Presidential Election of 2024. Time and place to be determined. Stay tuned, it will be quite the Event, and very exciting! President DJT"

Trump's administration faced widespread complaints following significant cuts to government staff, as he passed a budget that included tax cuts for the wealthy, and temporary cuts for non-millionaires, significant cuts to Medicaid, and the imposition of tariffs that have led to substantial price increases on goods and food.

The last time Trump was in office for a convention, in 2020, he held the convention at the White House.

The announcement comes after a Reuters/Ipsos survey this month found Trump had a 42% approval rating, with 56% disapproving.
