The defense spending bill is coming down to the wire, funding for Ukraine is becoming desperate, and the U.S. hasn't passed a bill to send financial aid to Israel since the attack on Oct. 7.
But somehow, Republican lawmakers found time to do a passionate defense of milk, Huffington Post congressional reporter Jennifer Bendery wrote.
“We want only the most nutritional option for Santa,” ranted Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) on the House floor Wednesday. “Whole milk is the unsung hero of his Christmas journey.”
She explained that Santa Claus must drink whole milk “to travel the whole globe in one night.”
"Protein helps build and repair Santa’s muscles. Hoisting heavy sacks of gifts up and down the chimney is no easy task," said Foxx.
“You see," she continued, "it’s not just the magic of the season that helps Santa deliver presents worldwide. It’s also the fortifying nutrients of whole milk. Reflecting on Christmas traditions this year begs the question, ‘If whole milk is a good option to fuel Santa’s extraordinary Christmas Eve journey, then why isn’t it an option for American schoolchildren in their lunchrooms?'"
The debate was about allowing whole milk back in school lunch programs. It was removed after studies revealed low-fat and fat-free milk helped reduce childhood obesity and provide healthier options. American Academy of Pediatrics and others agree with the lower fat options over whole milk.

Foxx said that lawmakers shouldn't listen to the medical experts and scientists on the matter, however.
“Scientists slash experts designed the Titanic, amateurs designed... uh, designed... scientists, experts built the Titanic, and amateurs built the Arc," she explained.
Republicans went on to imply that other forms of milk like almond milk, soy milk, etc were communist beverage. They had a large posterboard with the Chinese flag and a carton with a photo of Xi Jinping.
